Mr Fred Kwadwo Anorld, Chief Patron of Apeguso Citizens Association, has observed that that the chieftaincy disputes in Apeguso would affect the development of the area.
He has therefore urged the youth to stay away from such disputes since they are the future leaders of the area.
He said the youth should rather put their energies into development oriented activities, to enhance their lifestyle and that of the people of the area.
Mr Anorld gave the advice at a get-together at Apeguso, to round-off the Association’s activities for the past year.
He said the youth, as future leaders of the nation, should not allow unscrupulous opinion leaders to lure them into chieftaincy affairs and disputes, which have stalled the development of a number of communities.
He said it was disheartening that the Akwamu state had indulged in protracted and unending chieftaincy disputes for the past 16 years, which had hampered the progress of the people.
Mr Anorld, a businessman and founder of former Tema-based Apeguso Anorld Warriors F/C, said Akwamuman has serene mountainous environs and could be developed as tourism sites to generate some funds as well as jobs for the youth.
He advised the chiefs and the people to focus on how to develop these sites to attract tourists to the area.
“You should help to provide social amenities in the area, to improve the living conditions of the people, instead of embroiling yourselves in unproductive chieftaincy issues to the detriment of the community”.
“Until we learn to resolve our problems ourselves, no one will do it for us,” he said.
Mr Anorld commended the Association for embarking on a number of projects, such as the acquisition of a 10-acre land to support the government’s youth in agriculture programme, which would provide jobs for the youth in the area.
Mr James Panyin Mintah, Organiser of the Association, said they have put up a new health post for the town and that plans are far advanced for the building of a new community centre with internet facilities.
He expressed his appreciation to the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Ofosu Ampofo for supporting the health post with medical equipment and accessories.
