A Houston woman charged with killing a 12-year-old boy and burning his body says his family paid her $20 to dump a closed container.
"I didn't know what was in it until they were showing me pictures in the interrogation room," Mona Nelson told KTRK-TV, Houston, in a jailhouse interview.
Nelson, 44, a former professional boxer, has been charged with capital murder. Investigators say she used a welding torch to burn Jonathan Foster's body after abducting him Christmas Eve.
"She is a cold, soulless murderer who showed an absolute lack of remorse in taking the life of Jonathan Foster," Mike Miller, a Houston homicide detective, said during a news conference Thursday.
Miller said police found a "wealth of evidence" including a welding torch at Nelson's home. Video from a surveillance camera at the site where the body was found shows a silver truck like Nelson's pulling up and someone dumping a container.
Nelson, who has a criminal record, said she has five grandchildren of her own and loves children.
