The chairmen of the Governing Councils and Rectors of polytechnics have called on the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) and all other unions in the polytechnics to give the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) the opportunity to harmonize and standardize their allowances and conditions of service to serve as framework for the negotiation of salaries of polytechnic workers.
They appealed to POTAG and all other unions in the polytechnics, including Conference of Rectors of Polytechnics (CORP) to take active part in the processes and activities of the tertiary services classification as directed by the FWSC.
These were contained in a communiqu issued at the end of a two-day meeting of Chairmen of Governing Councils of Polytechnics, Rectors and polytechnic staff unions as well as FWSC in Koforidua on Tuesday.
The communiqu which was read by Professor Joshua Alabi, Chairman of the Accra Polytechnic Governing Council who chaired the meeting, also called on CORP to invite FWSC to tour all polytechnic campuses to educate the staff on the Single Spine Pay Policy.
The communiqu said any future industrial action should not be extended to courses which the polytechnics have no control over their
examination schedules as well as foreign students on special programmes that are run in collaboration with foreign institutions whose deadlines have to be complied with.
