The Reverend Jonathan Akwanda, President, Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association, on Wednesday advised members of its Brong-Ahafo regional branch to co-operate with elected regional executives to achieve set goals.
"The time has come for members of the association to change their negative perception that has in one way or the other undermined the efforts of democratically-elected leaders which has brought in its wake counter-productive results for the Association", Rev. Akwanda said.
He was addressing members of the regional association before the election of executives to serve a four-year term.
The national president stressed that a leader was "a person who can accommodate all forms of criticism from within and outside as anybody who can easily be provoked cannot be a good leader or administrator".
He called on the new executives to co-operate in running the association for the good of members.
Rev. Akwanda who is also a Pastor of Rehema Outreach Church at Ashaiman in Greater Accra Region, said no organisation could be successfully run only with physical ability and knowledge, but must be supported with "a spiritual push" to ensure continued unity and love among members.
Nana Bonsu Asibey, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association advised the Brong Ahafo regional new executives to organise in-service training courses for members to update their professional skills.
He cautioned members against complacency and to continue to research and be abreast of new trends in the profession to win the confidence of
customers.
Mr. Thomas Anaman Mochiah, a former regional vice-chairman of the association and one-time district chairman of Duayaw Nkwanta was unanimously elected regional chairman, scooping 39 out of the 50 votes cast.
His rival, Mr. Johnson Baffo Appiah, Sunyani District chairman, obtained only 11 votes.
Mr. Samuel Asante Addo, Atebubu District chairman, was elected un-opposed as regional vice-chairman while Mrs. Charlotte Owusu Kyere,
Berekum District chairperson was also elected unopposed as regional treasurer.
No candidate stood for the post of regional training coordinator in the election and according to the rules of the association, the contest for the post was deferred and the new regional executives were tasked to take the
matter up.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Mochiah, a member of the association for 16 years, thanked members for the honour and promised to do his best for the growth of the association in the region.
