The Central Regional Director of Education, on Monday appealed to the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and early childhood educators, to take keen interest in early childhood development to facilitate quality national human resource reservoir.
Mr Sarfo Kantanka, who made the call at a workshop to augment the skills of early childhood educators in Cape Coast, said the region's accolade as the cradle of education should serve as an impetus to project early childhood education.
The workshop was a collaboration between the Ghana Education Service and UNICEF to train kindergarten teachers as well as regional, district and circuit supervisors to support monitoring and supervision at kindergartens.
Mrs Irene Duncan-Adanusah, General Secretary of GNAT, said the workshop was meant to complement and build the capacity of early childhood educators to polish their skills.
She said early childhood education had become a critical area in education policy receiving attention the world over and appealed to the participants to take it seriously.
Mrs Duncan-Adanusah noted that early childhood education is not only about sending children to the classroom but also catering for their health and social needs as well.
