The late Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Sumani Zakari was on Monday buried at Tamale.
Thousands of mourners, including executives of the party, ministers, DCEs and bigwigs of the NDC thronged the burial grounds to pay their last respect.
Alhaji Ibrahim Yussif Andani, Tamale Central Constituency Chairman of the NDC had earlier, told the GNA that, the party's regional Chairman's death occurred on Sunday evening, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, in Accra.
The body Zakari was flown to Tamale on Monday for burial in consonance with Islamic practice.
Alhaji Andani said the Chairman had been ill for sometime now and had been on admission at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital receiving treatment.
He said the death of Alhaji Zakari had left a big vacuum in the party, saying that, his fatherly advices and leadership qualities would forever be in the minds of the party members.
He noted that, the late Chairman had been a strong support base for the NDC party in the Northern region.
According to Alhaji Andani, Zakari was about 73 years and left behind four wives and about 25 children.
