The Construction and Building Materials Workers Union
(CBMWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday commended Consar Limited, an Accra-based construction company for not putting impediments in the formation of the CBMWU branch in that company.
In a press release issued by CBMWU in Accra on Wednesday, Mr Quainoo
said some companies in the building and construction industry grudgingly accepted the formation of trade unions in their establishments which, he said, did not augur well as far as trade unionism was concerned.
He said the formation of the Union at Consar Limited in Wa would not only foster good management-worker relations but would also promote hard work and higher productivity due to the cordial relationship.
Madam Comfort Agambaa, Regional Industrial Relations Officer of the CBMWU, educated members on the aims and objectives of the Union, occupational hazards and safety, the conduct expected of them under the Labour Act, 651 of 2003, and the need to promote and deepen employer-employee relations.
Later in an election, Mr Patrick Kyeb was elected branch Chairman with Mr Siaka Seidu as Vice Chairman.
Mr Daniel Brenya was elected Secretary, while Mr Alimu and Mr K Arimu Moro were elected First and Second Trustees respectively.
