Deputy Superintendent of Police Francis Enorh, the Bibiana-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Commander, has advised drivers to act more responsibly to help reduce accidents.
They should observe safety rules, avoid speeding and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and hard drugs.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, he pledged the resolve of the police to bring to justice motorists who did not follow traffic regulations.
He appealed to pedestrians to be careful when crossing the road and said it was worrying to note the surge in accidents involving pedestrians.
Mr Enorh said there had been a reduction in accident deaths.
Last year 13 people died in 39 road accidents but this year the district had recorded 24 accidents which claimed 10 lives between January and October.
DSP Enorh attributed the downward trend to regular motor checks mounted by the police and said this would be sustained.
He said the authorities were determined to ensure that this year's Christmas is "accident free."
