A South Korean non-governmental organization said Tuesday it will be hosting an editorial cartoon exhibition to remind G-20 leaders of environmental issues when they gather in Seoul next week.
Future Forest, which aims to combat desertification and promote sustainable land management, will open the exhibition, titled "Save the Earth," at the Convention and Exhibition Centre (COEX) on Sunday. COEX will serve as the main venue for the G-20 summit on Nov. 11-12.
About 100 works by top cartoonists and teenagers from the G-20 nations will be on display to "urge leaders to show an interest in environmental issues that could easily be neglected during debates about the global financial crisis," said an official at Future Forest. Caricatures of the leaders will also be on view.
The exhibition, which will run simultaneously at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from Nov. 9, will close on Nov. 14.
Also ahead of the summit, the Seon Culture Promotion and Education Centre will put on a performance to raise awareness of the earth's environmental problems and their causes with the help of actors dressed up as various plants and animals, including rice, pigs, cattle and pine trees, organizers said.
The "G-20 + Earth Family" show will kick off on Nov. 3 for an eight-day run, excluding the weekend, at Gwanghwamun Haechi Theatre.
