The Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service in Tamale have arrested motorists in the metropolis for committing traffic offences.
The arrest is part of a national exercise being carried by the police to ensure that motorists comply with road safety regulations as part of measures to reduce accidents in the country.
Inspector Patricia Adama, the Station Officer of the Tamale MTTU, told the GNA in an interview that motorists were being arrested for riding or driving without license, road worthy certificate, insurance offences, riding without helmet and using expired driving licenses.
She said the MTTU in the metropolis had educated drivers on several occasions to comply with the road regulations but was surprised to have arrested several of them for non-compliance.
Inspector Adama said the exercise would continue after those arrested had been made to face the law.
