A thirty year old driver, Alex Nartey, has been sentenced to seven years in prison in hard labour by the Asamankese Circuit court for raping a married woman.
He pleaded guilty.
Presenting the facts of the case, Police Detective Inspector R. K. Yeboah told the court that, on July 1, this year, the complainant was asleep when the accused sneaked into her room and switched off the light.
Posing as the husband of the woman, he began the act of sexual intercourse with her.
In the process, the complainant asked the accused who he was and he replied it was the husband.
But as she was experiencing some pains, she subjected the accused to more questions as to why he removed her pants half way and why he also put
off the light but the accused said he did not do that on purpose.
She immediately became suspicious and pushed him off her and raised an alarm.
The accused then took to his heels but was given a chase by the womans husband and brother who were returning from a movie.
The police gave the complainant a medical report form to attend hospital for treatment.
In his caution statement to the police, the accused admitted raping the woman.
