Government has announced an increase and modification in the intake of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) personnel from 50 per cent to 100 per cent.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by Mr. John k Paul, Bole district information officer and copied to the GNA in Accra on Saturday.
It said a 3-weeks intensive training workshop, has been organised for 200 participants, drawn from the Bole district of the Northern region.
Participants were made up of 30 Arabic instructors and 170 Community Education Training Assistance (CETA).
Mr Abdul Rasheed Braimah, Bole District Coordinator of the NYEP advised beneficiaries to accept positing to the rural areas and not to see it as a punishment, since the communities needed their services and assistance.
He said government was on course in addressing the unemployment problem and expressed worry about the increased rate of criminal activities in the country such as armed robbery, 419 and other anti social vices.
He also attributed the cause crimes to the unemployment among the youth, prompting them into these acts.
The statement noted that approval has been made to recruit health assistance, under the health assistance category, to boost the health service delivery in the district and the country at large.
It urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity and better their academic performance by the end of the two-year contract, in order to be enrolled into the teacher training colleges.
Mr Alhaji Adudu Seidu Sampson, Bole District Chief Executive said the NYEP was a self sustaining job and asked the beneficiaries "to try as much as possible to be self reliant, at the end of their contract, by acquiring better professional qualification.
He said the lack of teachers in the district was alarming and that his outfit would not hesitate to release funds to run the training workshop.
He also warned the beneficiaries that their performance would be monitored and supervised on the field, adding that, "I will not hesitate to use punitive measures against any recalcitrant teacher".
Mr Moomen, Bole District Director of Education thanked the NYEP and government for acknowledging and recognizing their potential as the right personnel, who can really impact on the skills of the beneficiaries to go out and deliver.
The beneficiaries were grateful to government for the opportunity and pledged their preparedness to deliver when they get to the field.
