The District Chief Executive of the Talensi-Nabdam District in the Upper East Region, Mrs Vivian Anafo, has called on people in the region to take keen interest in the upcoming National Population and Housing Census.
She said population census serves as the basis for sharing national resources, which in turn aided development.
The census begins September 26, this month.
She urged the people to provide credible information to the enumerators in order to forestall any wrong data being recorded saying, "this has the tendency to stifle the district's fair share of national resources and consequently development.
Mrs Anafo made the call at the graduation ceremony of the Talensi Dressmakers Association, a branch of the Upper East Regional Tailors and Dressmakers Association.
Twenty six young women graduated as qualified tailors and dressmakers while 200 more women were enrolled as apprentices.
Addressing the gathering, the DCE congratulated the young women for their efforts and commitment in learning a trade.
She urged other young individuals in the district and the region at large to take up trades for themselves.
Mrs Anafo also used the occasion to reiterate her call on those living or farming close to the banks of the White Volta to move to high lands in other to avoid catastrophe from the spillage of the Bagre Dam in neighbouring Burkina Faso.
"The district has so far lost four energetic persons from this spillage that is still on-going," she said.
On the Upper East golden jubilee, the DCE said the celebrations would include a beauty pageant for the region, which will start in the various districts and municipalities in the region.
She called on interested ladies to pick up their registration forms from the District Assembly to enable them to participate in the event, which comes on September 27th 2010.
Earlier, the chairlady of the Upper East Regional Tailors and Dressmakers Association, Mrs Celestine Adogbobo Ayine, advised the young women against acts of indiscipline.
She also appealed to the Assembly, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and benevolent organizations to support the Association to acquire an office.
