Mr Kofi Opoku Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister, has charged Muslim parents to sensitise their children, especially the girl-child, on the need to place education first before marriage.
He said education would not only enable them to become better wives and mothers, but also make them contribute meaningfully to the development of
the larger society.
Mr Opoku Manu made the call, when he joined Muslims in the Kumasi metropolis to celebrate the Eid-Ul-Fitr festival, at the Central mosque on
Friday.
He stressed the need for a peaceful coexistence of all tribes and religions in the Zongo communities and said that was the only guarantee for a better future for their children.
�I believe the best gift we can give to our children is how to ensure peace and understanding among various factions in the communities, to
guarantee the future of our children�, he emphasised.
Mr Opoku Manu charged Muslims to pray for the stability and progress of the nation whiles engaging in acts that would portray the true nature of their religion.
He reminded them of the impending national population and housing census scheduled to take place from September 26, and appealed to them to
support the exercise by spreading the news and cooperating with census officials to ensure the success of the exercise.
The Regional Minister called on the members of the Zongo communities to continue to rally behind the NDC government to enable it to actualise projects and programmes envisaged to achieve the better Ghana agenda.
Sheik Imana Musah, Ashanti Regional Chief Imam lauded the efforts of the various religious and ethnic groups to promote the peace and mutual
understanding prevailing in the country.
He appealed to all Muslims to exercise restraint and eschew negative tendencies and social vices that often gave the Muslim religion a bad picture in the eyes of the public.
Sultan Alhaji Umar Farouk Saeed, Sarkin Zongo, said a number of development projects have been initiated to provide employable skills to the
youth in the Zongo communities and appealed to the government for support.
