The Upper Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo, has said education was the key to development and the government was determined to provide logistics to ensure that the sector was fully supported.
He said in view of this the government has placed premium on infrastructure development such as the construction of classrooms, residential facilities for teachers and students and the provision of vehicles to educational institutions in the region.
The Minister said this during an inspection of school projects in the Garu Tempane, Bawku Municipality and the Bawku West District.
In the Garu-Tempane District, Mr Woyongo inspected a two-storey classroom block, an administration and library complex, one storey girls� dormitory and a six-unit classroom block meant for first year students of the Tempane Senior High School.
He praised the contractors for doing a good job but expressed displeasure at the slow pace of work, adding that they were far behind schedule
especially Messrs Bawkzua Enterprise who is working on a six-unit classroom block and had abandoned the site for two weeks.
The Minister reiterated his pledge that contractors who did good jobs and completed their work on schedule would be put on the good books of the government and would be considered for other jobs in future.
At the Bawku Senior Technical School, the Minister inspected a 12-unit classroom block awarded in 2009, an administration block, boys and girls� dormitories which are scheduled for completion this year.
The Headmistress of the school, Madam Elizabeth Apibil, prised the government for the projects and pledged to monitor the contractors to speed up work.
Mr Woyongo inspected a renovated dormitory valued at GH�4,500 at the Bawku Technical Institute, a library complex and a girls� dormitory to be completed in February 2011.
The Minister inspected two 12-unit classroom block at the Bawku Senior High School and in the Bawku West District he inspected a six-unit classroom block bringing existing classrooms to 16 since the establishment of the school.
Work is going on steadily on other projects in the school including a GH�645,000 kitchen, dinning and assembly halls and girls� dormitory which are all on schedule.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Catherine Nbun Apanga, expressed appreciation to the government for its support for her institution and
appealed for 12e additional classrooms and means of transport for the school.
