Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli and
President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs, has appealed to chiefs and political appointees from the region to preoccupy themselves with strategies for the development of the region instead of being bogged down with petty disagreements over where projects should be sited.
He was addressing a meeting arranged by the House with Members of Parliament and government appointees from the region in Ho.
He said the desire of the people was a united Volta Region and advised that disagreements over where political appointees hailed from were diversionary and served no good purpose.
We desire development, in particular, economic development that brings hope for the future. This can best take place in an atmosphere of harmony and dialogue between the traditional and the political leadership of the region, he said.
Togbe Afede said political office holders in the region should regularly consult traditional leaders to forestall duplication of development initiatives.
Togbe Afede said purely politically-inspired programmes were not sustainable and that the involvement of traditional leaders in initiating development projects would ensure community ownership of those projects and
their sustainability.
