Members of the Civil and Local Government Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) in the Kwahu-South and Kwahu-East districts as well as and the Kwahu-West Municipality on Thursday went on a two-hour demonstration at Nkawkaw as part of a nationwide demonstration.
The workers with red bands on their heads and wrists were carrying placards some of which red "Open salary negotiation for 2010, we will not sit down anymore, who is a professional and who is not, and we want fairness in negotiation for the implementation for SSSS".
A petition read by the Eastern Regional Organizer of CLOGSAG, Mr Francis Nii Clottey was later presented to the Kwahu-West Municipal Presiding Member, Mr Agyenim Boateng.
The petition said CLOGSAG had been a recognized body, which had negotiated over the years for economic and social interest of its members as a legitimate public service negotiation committee under PNDC law 309.
According to the petition, CLOGSAG had been negotiating salaries, wages and all other matters connected with employment, non-employment and other conditions of service in the public service over the years.
Mr Clottey later reminded members that they were not on strike but rather expressing their grievances through street demonstrations and urged them to go back to work and perform their normal duties but to continue to put on the red band until they hear from their leaders.
He said members of CLOGSAG were asking for a negotiation right to negotiate improved salary structure under the SSSS to enhance their living standards.
