The Most Reverend Mathias Nketia, Metropolitan
Catholic Archbishop of Cape Coast, has implored Ghanaians to rise above ethnocentrism and hold together to move the nation forward.
It was important they all accepted to live in total peace and genuine national reconciliation he said, pointing out that, this was the path to progress.
Archbishop Nketia said as a people they should be prepared to share what they have with each other, support one another and work in unity of purpose to make life a bit comfortable for all, especially the poor and the under privilege.
He was delivering the sermon at a special thanksgiving service to climax the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Ghana, a Society within the Catholic Church, in Kumasi.
"Lift Jesus High", was the theme.
The Archbishop said 40 years in the life of any institution was "very important" and encouraged the leadership to take stock of its activities and work out ways to enhance its contribution to the growth of the church.
They should intensify evangelism and assist in the implementation of development projects in the rural communities to improve the socio-economic situation of the people.
Most Reverend Nketia said Catholicism, since its advent in the country, had helped to advance the Ghanaian society in all fields of endeavour, and that, it was about time well-meaning Catholics worked assiduously to grow the church.
Mr Anthony Osei Assibey, National Director of the Society, paid tribute to the founding fathers, for their vision, and said within the past four decades, it has helped to build the internal structures of the church through evangelism.
