Ahenebroso Care Foundation, a Non- Governmental Organisation engaged in HIV/AIDS mitigation activities, is to sponsor 20 women to contest the impending district level elections in the
Techiman Municipality.
The NGO will support the women with posters, education and workshops in their campaigns.
Mr. Davis Boamah-Asumadu, Executive Director of the NGO, disclosed this at Nkwaeso at a two-day workshop for 25 zonal councillors, unit committee members, revenue collectors and stakeholders.
The workshop, under the theme: "Good governance and women participation in the electoral process", was organized by the NGO and sponsored by IBIS - West Africa, to help build the capacity of the participants as stakeholders
to draw their committee action plans.
Mr. Boamah-Asumadu said their commitment to development in the rural areas would give the people the confidence to elect them to help address their developmental needs.
He urged the participants to collaborate with traditional authorities to draw community action plans for the development of their areas.
The NGO director said the provision of action plan for Nkwaeso was necessary because it could be incorporated into the assembly's medium term development plan and appealed to the participants to honour their tax obligations.
Mr. Boamah Asumadu indicated that about 135 out of 264 patients with HIV/AIDS who the Foundation registered had died of the disease.
Mr. Evans Osei Bediako, project co-ordinator of the NGO, urged Unit Committees to liaise with traditional authorities to accelerate the
development of their areas.
Ms. Mavis Ama Yeboah, Administrative Secretary of the NGO, deplored the attitude of some parents, especially women, who refuse to send their children to school.
