Members of Environmental Awareness Association,
an Accra-based NGO, have appealed to Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to retain containers for refuse collection in the communities.
Mr Theophilus Neequay Djanie Mogah, National Organiser of the association, told the GNA in an interview that withdrawal of the containers
located at vantage points within the metropolis had led to unsanitary conditions in the communities.
He said the association was committed to collaborate with AMA to solve the problem.
Mr Mogah said the containers improved sanitation although some recalcitrant residents refused to comply but their withdrawal had led to
'mountains' of refuse in communities.
He suggested that the containers should be handed over to the sub-metropolitan, municipal and districts assemblies for effective management.
Mr Mogah appealed to AMA to give logistics to the NGO to undertake voluntary activities.
He reminded Mr Alban S.K. Bagbin, Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, of his pledge to provide members of the association with
raincoats and boots.
