Managements of three companies on Thursday donated items worth GH�13,200, to the National Secretariat of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to assist recent flood victims in the country.
They are, Access Bank Ghana Limited, Vega Foods and Latex Foam Company.
Items donated included bags of rice, cooking oil, milk, blankets, used clothing, tomato paste, mackerel and 150 pieces of Latex foam mattresses.
Latex Foam donated items worth GH�5,700, Access Bank, GH�5,000 and Vega Foods GH�2,500.
Management of Access Bank in collaboration with NADMO have opened a Disaster Relief Account (0011620022561) to support victims of the floods.
Making the presentation, Head of Corporate Affairs, Access Bank, Mrs Matilda Asante-Aseidu said the account would facilitate public contribution to ensure an all- year- round disaster fund for victims.
"We were touched by the plight of the victims, loss of lives and property and therefore decided to support them," she added.
Mrs Asante-Aseidu commended efforts of government and NADMO to protect lives and property and urged other corporate organisations and philanthropists to sustain the momentum created to provide relief for the afflicted in society.
Access Bank is one of the most capitalised universal banks in the Ghanaian banking industry with a stated capital of GH�80 million.
During the 2009 financial year, the bank chalked an industry milestone as the only new generation bank to have posted profit within its first year of operation.
Mr Selasie Mawuenyega, Marketing Manager of Vega Foods, said the donation was part of the corporate responsibility of the company.
Mr Emmanuel Dakey, Marketing Officer of Latex Form Company, said the donation was the widow's mite of the corporate entity to the victims.
Mr Martin Amidu, Minister of the Interior who received the items on behalf of NADMO thanked the donors for the love they have shown and appealed to other organisations, individuals and philanthropists to emulate them.
He asked the public to be mindful of the manner they litter the environment and build without the appropriate building permits.
