Nii Adjei Kraku II, Tema Mantse, on Tuesday said the falling standards of education in basic schools within the Metropolis must be a matter of grave concern to all stakeholders in education.
The school authorities and parents, he said, should therefore cooperate with the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) to help find a lasting solution to the problem.
Nii Kraku made these remarks when Mrs Grace Otum Ocansey, the newly appointed Headmistress of Tema Manhean Junior High School (JHS) paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Tema new Town.
The Tema Mantse who was flanked by some members of the Traditional Council, said as a member of the Education Oversight Committee in the Metropolis, he would do everything possible to ensure that teachers were motivated to give of their best to help raise education standards.
Mrs Ocansey, who took over the headship of the school on the reopening of schools on May 13, said one of the major challenges facing Manhean JHS was truancy on the part of the pupils.
She said she had therefore declared war on truancy to help instil discipline in the children.
Mrs Ocansey said the school authorities and the Parent/Teacher Association were doing their utmost best to provide a computer laboratory in order to make the children computer literate.
