The Reverend Paul Ansah, a retired Pastor of the King of Kings Church at Obosomase, has called for the closing down of video and cinemas centres in the country.
He said the screening of negative foreign films by centres was corrupting the minds, character, behaviour and attitude of the majority of children in the society, and therefore they must be banned.
The Rev Ansah made the call at a Parent/Teacher Association meeting to raise funds for the building of a temporary market structure and the repair of a damaged bridge at Obosomase in the Eastern Region.
He said school attendance by majority of children had become irregular for days or weeks, while some of them also absconded from school to visit video and cinema centres to the detriment of their education.
The Retired Pastor said many children had turned pick-pockets and armed robbers because of the films they watched at video centres and urged parents to monitor their children at home and dictate the kind of films they watch.
The Rev Ansah also advised parents to help mould the children by instilling in them the fear of God, the highest sense of discipline and cultured behaviour so that they become good adults in future.
