The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced a care taker farmer, Paul Mensah, to four years imprisonment for stealing cocoa beans belonging to his farm owner.
Ebenezer Tetteh, who was in the dock with him for abetment of crime, was ordered to pay a fine of GH�400.00 and GH�200.00 as compensation to the farm owner.
He would serve 12 months in jail if he fails to pay the money.
They both pleaded guilty.
Police Detective Inspector Adu Ofori, told the court that on June 22, the convict stole part cocoa beans harvested from the farm and arranged with Tetteh to keep the beans to be sold later to a buying company.
The farm owner got wind of the deal and confronted them but they denied.
Unconvinced, he made a report to the police, who arrested them.
The prosecution said during interrogation they confessed to the crime, claiming they did that because the complainant had been cheating Mensah.
