Passengers have appealed to the Management of the Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Limited, to consider providing buses to ply the Tema-Accra Beach Road.
They stated that oftentimes they got stranded after close from work due to the unavailability of commercial vehicles to commute them to their destinations.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Tema, most of the passengers expressed their frustration at the difficulty in getting transportation to and from work.
They regretted that even though the MMT has a station in Tema, none of their buses plied the beach road.
According to the passengers, it was unfortunate that the MMT had not extended its services to people staying at Sakumono, Nungua, Teshie, and its environs working in the Tema Metropolis.
Nana Ama Mensah, a trader, said by providing buses on the beach road, the MMT could help reduce the dangers and struggles passengers went through everyday.
She explained that passengers had to fight each other before getting the chance to board a commercial vehicle (trotro) to work and back.
Nana Ama further said thieves often took advantage of the situation to steal people's mobile phones, money, and other personal belongings during such struggles, especially in the evenings.
Another passenger, Mr George Boateng, indicated that he sometimes spent more than two hours moving from place to place trying to get transportation home.
Mr Boateng said he often got home late in the evening exhausted and also had to report to work late, due to the lack of available transport.
He added that commercial drivers, both taxis and 'trotros,' also used the situation to exploit passengers by increasing the fares.
The GNA has observed that due to the activities of some junkies at the bus stops, especially in front of the Tema Community One branch of the Standard Chartered Bank, some commercial drivers refuse to load passengers from there.
The junkies often collected monies ranging between 50 Ghana pesewas and one Ghana cedi from the drivers after passengers got on board their vehicles.
Failure of a driver to pay the money meant the junkies would pull the driver's mate from the moving vehicle and assault him.
