The Western Regional Police Command impounded 22
unregistered motorbikes in a special exercise in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, at the weekend.
A press release, signed by Chief Inspector Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, said the exercise was supervised by the Regional Operations Commander, Superintendent Peter Burgesson.
It said majority of the riders, on seeing the Police, abandoned the bikes and absconded.
The release said those arrested were being processed to appear before the courts on charges, including the use of unregistered motorbike, riding without a valid license, use of a motorbike without road worthiness certificate and the use of motorbike without protective helmet.
It said that the impounded motorbikes would be declared as derelict property and sold to the public by way of auction and the proceeds paid into government chest, if they were not claimed within 21 days.
The release said the exercise would continue until the region is rid of unregistered motorbikes.
