Chief Minister of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi Thursday said Tamil
literary works should be translated into other Indian and world languages so that people across the globe can have access to them.
"Tamil literary works should be translated into other languages...Tamils own an illustrious tradition. They should realise this and should also try to make others aware of it," Karunanidhi said after inaugurating a seminar as part of the
ongoing World Classical Tamil conference here.
Similarly, writings on Tamilology and works regarding the language in Greek, French, German and other languages should be translated into Tamil. Books and documents in Tamilology
should be converted into electronic format and arrangements should be made to provide universal access to it, he said.
He asked the scholars participating in the conference to highlight what further actions should be taken to enrich Tamil and inform the state government about it.
