A founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Mintah, has appealed to the government to take immediate steps to rehabilitate hundreds of people who have been displaced by the floods.
He has also expressed his condolences to the victims of the flood that swept through some parts of the country last Sunday.
Thirty-five people nationwide were believed to have lost their lives, and millions of Ghana cedis worth of property were either lost or destroyed by the floods.
Speaking to newsmen after an inspection of flood-hit areas at Agona Swedru, Gomoa Tekyiam and Gomoa Okyereko, Mr Mintah called for immediate
reconstruction of the two bridges over River Akora at Agona Swedru which were swept away by the floods, thus cutting off one part of the town from
the other.
"Commercial activity in the business hub of the Agona has come to a standstill," he said.
Mr Mintah who is a member of the Central Region Council of Elders of the NDC, advised estate developers to avoid constructing houses in water
ways to allow for free flow of water when it rains.
He urged Ghanaians to regard the disaster as a national calamity and stopped doing politics with it.
"It is a natural disaster which no government could have prevented," he added.
