An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday sentenced a 35-year unemployed to five years imprisonment in hard labour for defrauding a couple.
Michael Kojo Blankson aka Charles Tawiah pleaded not guilty.
The court presided over by Mr D.E.K. Dakasey, passing sentence, said the circumstances under which Blankson defrauded the couple was evil and
advised him to find some profitable job to do to earn income.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abraham Annor, said sometime in 2006, the convict collected various sums of monies totalling 18,000
pounds sterling from Felix Asomaning, unemployed, under the pretext of securing work permit to enable him (Asomaning) to work in London but failed to honour it.
ASP Annor said the convict also succeeded in collecting GH1,500 from Comfort Asomaning, wife of the complainant, under the pretext of securing
London visa for her but also failed.
Prosecution said the convict, having succeeded in collecting the monies went into hiding, a complaint was lodged with the Police and investigations led to his arrest.
He said the convict managed to abscond after police enquiry bail but was later re-arrested and during interrogation admitted the offence and
refunded GH1,000.
