The Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS) has unveiled plans to petition the Ministries of Education and Sports for the exclusion of private schools from government
interventions designed to enhance enrolment.
Elder Charles Oppong Peprah, Dormaa-Ahenkro Local Chairman of GNAPS, who made this known at Dormaa said: "The continuous exclusion of private
schools from such government interventions as the capitation grant, school feeding programme and more recently the distribution of free school uniforms
and exercise books does not only demonstrate government's discrimination towards us but it also denies our kids their fair share of government's
budgetary allocations for education."
He made this known when the branch donated assorted fruits and provisions worth GHC 1,000 to inmates of the children's ward at the Dormaa
Presbyterian hospital.
The donation formed part of activities marking the annual week celebration of the association.
Elder Peprah who presented the gift on behalf of the association said members shared the plight of the hospitalised children who but for their
unfortunate conditions should have been in school.
As part of the celebration, GNAPS would organise clean up exercises, football gala matches and route march.
Elder Peprah appealed to the hospital to give dispensation to children who attended the hospital in school uniform.
The hospital's Nursing Administrator, Mr Edmund Yeboah thanked the association for the kind gesture, saying the gift would go strictly to the
target beneficiaries to speedy up their healing process.
