A 19-year suspected robber who escaped from police custody, where he was on remand, has been sentenced to 912 days by the Juaben Circuit Court.
On April 23, the court presided over by Mr Justice Alex Obeng Asante ordered that Isaac Opoku alias "Rapture" should be held in police custody at Mamponteng to reappear later to answer a charge of robbery.
Opoku however escaped from the police cells with another suspect and was recaptured at his Ahwiaa hideout on May 13, following a tip off.
Police Chief Inspector Ben Apuyohire told the court that the convict acting together with one Malam, now at large broke the ceiling of the police cells at Mamponteng, where they were being kept and fled under the cover of darkness.
Opoku was convicted on his own plea of escaping from lawful custody.
He would be tried for the substantive charge against him in prison.
