The Ghana Chapter of the Niger-Delta Community, on
Friday sent a message of condolence to the family of President Umar Musa Yar-Adua and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora.
A statement issued by Francis Okproko, President of the chapter in Accra on Friday said: "We do console the wife, children, President and all Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora over the
passing to glory of our beloved President."
It said: "It is on record that Yar-Adua stood for the rule of law, equity and justice. He was a man of accountability and transparency. He was a gentleman, a dependable ally, a detribalised
Nigerian, a Pan Africanist and a true African leader.
The statement noted that Nigeria and Africa as a whole had lost a very rare gem; a pillar among equals and a champion of peace and good reforms, "a man after our hearts and a man who gave Nigeria hope for true democracy with the amnesty package for the people of Niger Delta and the reforms of
electoral laws of Nigeria".
The chapter thanked President John Evans Atta Mills and the good people of Ghana for their solidarity and support during Nigeria's sad moment of grief, by declaring a three- day national
mourning period in Ghana by flying the country's flag at half mast.
The statement called on Nigerians in Ghana to observe an eight-day prayer for the repose of the soul of the late President.
