A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 21 year old driver's mate to five years imprisonment in hard labour for assault.
Mandela Kwadwo Tuffour was convicted on his own plea. Police Chief Inspector Comfort Kyei Baffour told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amoh Yartey that the convict, on April 20, asked the
complainant, Solomon Amoako Boateng, to allow him to download some songs on his cell phone, which he agreed.
Tuffour left with the phone and for two days could not be traced.
The prosecution said Boateng who became alarmed managed to track him on the third day and demanded the return of his cell phone.
This generated into a fight in the course of which Tuffour removed the regulator of a gas cylinder and pierced the complainant's right eye.
She said the screaming of Boateng attracted some people to the scene, who arrested and handed Tuffuor over to the police.
