Plan Ghana (PG), non-governmental organisation (NGO),last Friday paid a total of GHC 1,000 to cover the registration fees and premiums of more than two hundred vulnerable people living in two communities in the Effutu Traditional Area.
Out of the number of beneficiaries, 190 were children aged between one year and 16 years, 8 persons aged 18 years and another 8 aged 70 years and above.
The communities are; Effutu-Atteitu and Effutu-Osubonpanyin, both in the catchment area of the Effutu Municipality.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency later in an interview, Mr J.K. Assan, Awutu-Bawjiase Programme Area Manager of Plan Ghana, reiterated the organisation's continued determination to make positive and more meaningful contributions towards the general well-being of children in its areas of operation.
"It is therefore no wonder that out of the huge number of needy people who benefited from the special health insurance sponsorship package which we initiated for selected inhabitants of Effutu-Atteitu and Effutu-Osubonpanyin
communities, children virtually took the whole bulk of the funding", Mr. Assan added.
Mr. Assan charged parents and guardians in the two communities to take good care of their children, stressing that "these little ones no doubt constitute the window of hope for you the parents and the nation as a whole".
Madam Gladys Amegletor, Plan Ghana's community health development officer, who organised the programme jointly with the officials of the Awutu Effutu Senya Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (AESMHIS), appealed to chiefs,
the assemblyman for the area and Plan Ghana - sponsored Community Development Officers in the two communities to ensure that parents and
guardians whose relatives benefited from the initiative renewed their cards periodically to sustain the programme.
She said plan Ghana's main concern was how people in the various Plan Ghana assisted communities could effectively maintain and sustain the various projects and interventions had provided them.
On their part, Neenyi Agyeefi Ackon Chief of Effutu-Osubonpanyin and Neenyi Obosu, Chief of Effutu-Atteitu, respectively, expressed gratitude to Plan Ghana and promised to compel parents and guardians of the beneficiaries to renew their ID cards at the end of the twelve months to ensure the sustenance of the programme.
