The Mfantseman Municipal Assembly has donated building materials worth about GHC1,200 to the Ghana Muslim Mission to support them in the expansion of a mosque at Mankessim.
Making the presentation, Mr. Henry Kweku Hayfron, Municipal Chief Executive said the Assembly was concerned with the spilling-over of
worshipers into the Mankessim - Cape Coast highway as they have grown beyond the space in the Mosque.
"We need not to wait for a disaster to strike before we think of expanding the mosque to contain all worshippers," he said.
Mr. Hayfron commended the leadership of the Mission at Mankessim for taking the initiative and said the Assembly's gesture of 50 bags of cement,
two packets of roofing sheets and one box of nails, was to help them to complete the project on time.
Alhaji Yakubu Sayed Adams, Imam in charge of the Mankessim Branch of the Mission, who received the items, commended the Assembly for the gesture
which, he said, had come at the right time.
The Imam said the Mosque was not used for praying to Allah alone but also used to educate Muslims on national issues including the need to pay taxes to the Assembly.
Alhaji Ishaq Asuru, Municipal Co-ordinating Director, urged Muslims to help to erase the misconception people had about those living in Zongos as trouble makers.
He said the misconception could be erased when they took education seriously and ensured that their children had formal education to a higher
level for them to get decent jobs.
