The Effutu Municipal Coordinator of the National Youth Council, (NYC) Mr Emmanuel S. Martey, has encouraged the youth to take advantage of the Youth in Agriculture Programme to improve their financial situation.
Mr Martey made the call at a meeting with a youth group at Ahentia in the Awutu-Senya District to discuss the lack of support of some parents to their children being trained by some Non-government Organisations.
He said, the youth as future leaders, must be given the necessary education and skills that would enable them to perform their responsibilities.
"Most youth without employable skills find themselves on the streets and become victims of rape, prostitution, child labour and drug abuse," he said.
He, therefore, advised parents to take up their responsibilities as partners in ensuring that their children are adequately empowered, adding that the government could not do it all alone.
Mr Martey said the NYC was doing its best to empower the youth in the various communities to become useful citizens and, therefore, urged them to engage in educative programmes.
The District Coordinator of the School Health Education Programme, Madam Gifty Brebo, encouraged the youth to engage in life-styles that would be beneficial to their health and the health of others.
She advised parents to invest in their children's education and training since that would make them become responsible future leaders.
