The National Youth Council (NYC) has directed all youth clubs in the country to take immediate steps to register with the council as required by the law.
The measure is aimed at tracking the development of the youth, streamline their
activities as well as make adequate provisions for them to contribute to national development.
In addition, it will offer the council an opportunity to have an accurate data base of all youth groups in the country to help them deliver on their mandate.
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Prince Derek Adjei, Deputy National Co-ordinator of the NYC said, it had become imperative for the council, to refocus on its mandate and play the lead role in achieving the President's vision of investing in the youth.
"Investing in the youth connotes the co-ordination of a typical scenario such as
the mainstreaming of all youth budgets and programmes of Ministries, Departments and Agencies and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives as well as youth focused organisations.
"This is to ensure that appropriate resources, funds, logistics and personnel for
youth led organisations are efficiently distributed", Mr Adjei stated.
He said, the exercise would also ensure that the Ghanaian set of values such as morality, discipline and respect for authority, spirit of volunteerism and honesty became part of the youth.
Mr Adjei condemned the recent riots and unruly behaviour of some members of the youth, saying, the action has cast a slur on the image of the youth as well as diverting the spotlight from positive contributions towards national
development.
"We must be firm in stamping out such anti- social behaviour and the authorities
must deal decisively with such miscreants in order to keep our youth agenda on track," he said.
Mr Stephen Mensah-Etsibah, Director in charge of Organisations and Programmes of NYC, appealed to all youth clubs in the country to take the exercise seriously to benefit from it.
He said with the requisite data and information on the activities of the youth, the council would be able to distribute national resources evenly.
