The Akim Swedru Circuit Court in the Birim South District, has convicted two farmers who stole two bags of oranges valued at GH¢25 from a farm, to a total fine of GH¢400.
Yaw Boakye and Charles Kwabena, both farmers, who pleaded guilty with explanation, would go to prison for nine months in hard labour each, if they f ail to pay the fine.
In their explanation, Boakye and Kwabena contended that they went to Alhaji Abudu Fatau's farm to pluck few oranges to suck, but denied having gone to the farm with bags.
The trial Judge, Mr. Kofi Akrowiah, ruled out their defence, as being untenable and accordingly convicted them.
Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiankorang said on April seven, this year at about 1330 hours, a witness in the case who shares a common boundary with Alhaji Fatau saw Boakye and Kwabena with two bags full of oranges worth GH¢25 plucked from Alhaji Fatau's farm.
Chief Inspector Appiakorang said the witness informed the complainant who also made a report to the police adding, the convicts were later arrested from their hideouts.
