An educationist and counsellor has appealed to the youth to show strong inclination towards skills acquisition to rein in the growing unemployment in the country.
Opanin Kwadwo Kyere, a former tutor of the Prempeh College, said it was time the young people became more interested in technical and
vocational education to get employable skills.
He was addressing a cross section of Christian youth at a talk show organized by the Youth Ministry of the Amakom Grace Baptist Church in Kumasi.
"The Christian and Vocation" was the theme.
Opanin Kyere said it should be obvious to all that the Government alone could not provide jobs for the large army of unemployed and that it
was time premium was put on self-employment.
He counselled them on the choice of educational careers, saying they should pursue those that would make them marketable.
He also underlined the need for them to ensure practical application of what they are taught in the educational institutions, and said it was by so doing that they would give meaning to their education.
Opanin Kyere advised them to be hard working and uphold the values of integrity and transparency.
He said it should not be lost on them that there was no short cut to success in life, telling them that "cutting corners would not do."
He urged the young ladies not to be either idle or engage in sex trade but to find something decent doing to become economically self-supporting.
The Rev Owusu Johnson, Pastor of the Youth Ministry, said life was not only about spirituality but also the physical well-being of the people.
