Mr Paul Evans Aidoo, has appealed to religious leaders to preach against social vices in order to complement government efforts to eliminate crime.
He said law and order was breaking down because parents are unable to control their children and appealed to churches to ensure that sanity prevails in the society.
Mr Aidoo said this in a speech read on his behalf at the 49th annual synod of Sekondi Diocese of the Methodist Church in Sekondi on Thursday.
He said the nation had not lost the battle to control social evils and that with determination and concerted efforts from all especially the clergy the situation could be turned around.
"It only needs a determined people to lift us from where we have dangerously reached and I trust it is the churches that can intercede for
the nation."
Mr Aidoo spoke against the practice of some religious leaders and elders of churches who shamefully commit serious crimes like incest, fraud and violence to bring the name of churches into disrepute.
He said churches which should insist on discipline and bring hope and comfort to the people are rather worsening the crime situation and called for immediate halt to such practices.
The Minister said though the constitution allows freedom of worship, charlatans must not be allowed to use the pulpit to blaspheme God.
"People who call themselves men of God, with all kinds of titles and ranks, have invaded the house of God and committing all manner of
unthinkable sins right under the cross of Christ", he said.
Mr Aidoo said the numerous criminal cases pending before the courts against religious leaders should be a shame to the Ministry.
He said the church had become a money making organization filled with quacks and charlatans who commit all manner of unthinkable sins in the name of God.
The Diocesan Bishop, the Right Reverend John Harvey-Ewusi, appealed to members to remain steadfast in the face of critical challenges as there is hope at the end of every struggle.
