Yaw Asiamah, 22, who stole 160 bunches oil palm fruits, was on Friday, remanded in Police custody by the Kade District Magistrate's Court.
Asiamah pleaded guilty with explanation and will appear in court again on May 27.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, said the complainant, Emmanuel Martey, who had an oil palm plantation at the outskirts of Nkwantanang, on April 17, harvested 168 bunches of oil palm fruit valued at GHC 200.
He said the complainant heaped the fruits by the road side to be carted the following morning.
The prosecutor said about 1800 hours on that same day, Asiamah, who lived at Otumi, and a friend were spotted packing the oil palm fruit into a hired KIA truck and headed towards Nkwantanang.
On their way, Asiamah asked his accomplice whether the woman they were sending the palm fruits to, would be able to pay spot cash to enable him to pay the driver for his services.
When the driver heard the conversation, he offered to buy the fruits for GHC 200, which he paid for.
The following day, the complainant went to the spot where he had heaped his palm fruits, only for him to discover that that it had been stolen.
Conducting his own investigations, he learnt that the KIA driver and his mate had carted the oil palm fruit.
He confronted the driver, who admitted buying it from the accused.
The accused was traced to Otumi, where he was arrested and handed over to the police.
