The Nsawam Police on Tuesday arrested two persons for possessing quantity of dry seeds suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects were Nana Yaw Kwabeng, a 27-year-old convict, who recently escaped from Awutu prisons in the Central Region with handcuffs and Nii Asamah aged 31.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, the Nsawam District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Alex Wowolo, said the suspects were arrested after Kwabeng stole a bicycle and became a wanted person by the police.
He said Kwabeng was later apprehended at a barbering shop where upon a search, a quantity of Indian hemp seeds were found in an envelope in his pocket.
DSP Wowolo said upon investigations it came to light that Nii Asamah sent Kwabeng with an amount of GH¢5.0 to buy the seeds at Adoagyiri Zongo and both planned to nurse them for transplant on their farms at Paano near Nsawam.
The police commander said the suspects would be arraigned before the Nsawam Magistrate's Court after interrogation. He added that the seeds would later be sent to Police Forensic laboratory in Accra for examination.
