The Ghana Education Service (GES) is to introduce school report cards to make it possible to monitor the performance and school attendance of teachers, pupils and students, Mr. Victor Yanney, Western Regional Planning Officer of GES, has said.
Speaking at the fourth Western Regional Education Sector Annual Review Meeting at Fijai near Takoradi, he said the ultimate goal for the
introduction of the card was to improve teaching and learning and promote accountability in education.
Mr. Yanney said the card would improve performance and achievements of pupils and students, strengthen teaching skills of teachers, promote school attendance by pupils, students and teachers and improve school/community relations.
He said all schools and classes would be given school report cards to record and provide information on performance of pupils and students,
availability of textbooks and teacher qualification and availability.
Mr. Yanney said cards would be collected by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Education Directorates for analysis and returned to the schools for stakeholders to discuss the reports to improve performance.
He said circuit supervisors and other education officials are being trained on the use of the cards after which the cards would be released to schools.
