Mrs. Clara Beeri Kassar-Tee, a lawyer, has told girls from the northern part of the country not to give up but keep on fighting hard till they achieve their goals despite difficulties they might face.
She said it was obvious that the northern parts of the country had many problems but that was not a justification for girls to engage in promiscuous lifestyles.
Mrs. Kassar-Tee was addressing over 300 girls from 14 districts of the Northern Region on Monday in Tamale in a two-day career and entrepreneurship fair aimed at guiding them to make better choices.
The fair, being attended by entrepreneurs, educational institutions and business
organizations, is on the theme; "Possibilities and opportunities" is organized by Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) and sponsored by Blatter and Frick social investors.
Mrs. Kassar-Tee, who was adjudged the best law student in the 2009 graduating class of the Ghana School of Law, said she had to struggle hard to overcome obstacles to become the best student, adding that there was not the end for
her but still aspires for many things in life.
Mrs. Delores Dickson, the Executive Director of CAMFED Ghana, said the fair was the first of its kind for young women in the region and entails interactive and inspirational presentations by renowned and successful women who could serve as role models for the young ladies.
She said it was a great opportunity for young women in the area to boost their desire and broaden their choices through the knowledge that they had acquired from the fair.
Mrs. Dickson said CAMFED believes that educating girls and providing them economic opportunities was a sure way of lifting poverty out of families in Africa.
Madam Rukaya Hussein, a lecturer of the University for Development Studies (UDS), told the girls to consider their interest, skills and values before making their choices.
Zakaria Sikena, CAMFED seed money beneficiary thinks she is on the path of success while Imoro Afiriwa, a student from the Chereponi SHS, said hopes to becomea lawyer after listening to the speakers.
