The Community Day Senior High School in Mozano in
the Gomoa West District is in dire need of residential and classroom accommodation.
The school which was established by the Muzama Disco Christo Church in 1983 was absorbed into the public system in 1993 has no staff accommodation for the 90 personnel.
Mr Emmanuel C. Acquah, Headmaster of the school told the Ghana News Agency in an
interview at Mozano, that 54 of the members of staff live in nearby towns such as Agona Swedru, a distance of about 40 kilometres.
The headmaster, also known as Nana Duku Ewusi X, Mankrado of Gomoa Adzintem said only 180 girls of the school's population of 1,200 were residing in an uncompleted hostel started by the Gomoa District Assembly 10 years ago.
He noted that 1,020 students reside in rented rooms in and around Mozano, which he said could lead to immoral behaviour among them.
Mr Acquah said the school needed 10 units of classrooms before admission for the 2010-2011 academic year to make it possible for the intake of fresh students.
The Headmaster said a library built in 1992 to accommodate 40 students was now being used by the 1,200 students.
He said the school had only 26 computers leading to inconvenience among the students.
The headmaster said the science laboratory was in a bad state whilst the home economics department had no place for practical work.
Mr Acquah said despite these challenges the academic performance of the school was very encouraging.
He said in 2005 the school placed 11th in the West Africa Senior Secondary Schools Certificate Examination.
He commended the Parent Teacher Association for providing Assembly and Dining halls and a computer laboratory for the school.
Mr Acquah also lauded the Students Representative Council for providing visitors
lounge and a generator for the school and the Assembly for providing a seven-unit classroom block and the uncompleted Girls Hostel.
The school will be celebrating its third Speech and Prize Giving Day on Saturday, March 13.
