Mr John Oremus Arko, Agona East District Chief Executive (DCE), has cautioned Ghanaians especially the youth not let the excitement about the oil find over shadow agricultural production.
Addressing a parade of school children to mark the country's 53rd Independence anniversary at Agona Nsaba, Mr Arko called for an effective national policy, which would retain the youth in farming.
He expressed the need for central government to regulate the oil business in order to sustain other sectors of the economy.
The DCE appealed to teachers to stop using weeding as a form of punishment for deviant students since it has the tendency of killing their interest in farming.
He advised the students to eschew negative practices that could affect their studies and future development.
Mr Arko said education was the key to their success in life.
