A 42-year-old driver has been remanded into prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for defiling an 11-year-old primary six pupil.
Kwabena Manu denied the offence and would re-appear on Wednesday, March 3, 2010.
Police Chief Inspector Nana Yaw Amofa told the Court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the victim lives with the grandmother at Yabi in the Atwima-Kwanwoma district, whilst Manu resides at Afrancho near
Kumasi.
On February 22 this year, the accused visited a friend, Kwaku Frimpong, who lives in the same neighbourhood with the young girl.
Police Chief Inspector Amofa said Manu lured her into the room of Frimpong under the pretext of sending her and sexually abused her.
The shrill cry of the victim sent her playing mates running to Frimpong's house, where they banged the door.
This attracted the attention of some people in the neighbourhood, who succeeded in forcing the door open.
A formal complaint was later made to the Police at Twedie.
He said a medical form signed by doctors confirmed that she been defiled.
