Trias Ghana, a Micro Finance Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has donated 78 computers and accessories including printers to 12 Rural Community Banks (RCBs) in the three Northern Regions valued at 50,017.71 Ghana Cedis.
The presentation was done at the close of a training workshop organised by the NGO for 21 staff of the RCBs in Micro-Finance and computer skills.
Presenting the items, the Regional Coordinator of Trias Ghana, Mr. Rex Asanga, stated that the purchase of the items was made possible through the collaboration between Trias Belgium and CORDAID of Holland.
He said the donation aimed at addressing logistical challenges facing RCBs in the three Northern Regions.
He indicated that Trias Ghana strategy had been to build the capacity of the 12 RCBs in the three Northern Regions so that they could intend
deliver adequate and sustainable micro finance services to the rural populations of the three Northern Regions.
He said for the past two years, Trias Ghana had been training staff and Directors of all the 12 RCBs, assisting the banks to establish viable Micro finance Units by supporting them with Credit and transport packages to improve on the Management of information systems, providing onsite technical support to them and linking them to other donors.
He said Trias Ghana believed that micro finance services was key to poverty reduction especially in the rural communities hence its
collaboration with the RCBs to achieve that objective.
Mr. Asanga said the NGO decided to focus in the three Northern Regions because of the high level of poverty in the area He called on the banks to make good of the items to increase production to empower the rural people.
The President of the North Eastern Chapter of RCBs, Mr. Sulley Agholisi thanked the NGO for the items and pledged on behalf of the banks to put them to good use.
He however stressed the need for the RCBs operating in the three Northern Regions to collaborate effectively to address the problems and challenges confronting them.
