A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Thursday imposed a fine of 360 Ghana Cedis on Eddie Morchia, an unemployed, for stealing a loudspeaker belonging to the Harbour View Stomach Care Restaurant in Takoradi.
The accused who pleaded guilty would serve six months imprisonment in hard labour in default of the fine.
The Court asked the accused to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 24 months or in default, 12 months imprisonment in hard labour.
Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Godwin Bawa, said at about 5.20 a.m. on February 2 this, Policemen on duty at the Charge Office of the Sekondi Police Station, saw an Opel Astra Taxi driving on the wrong side of the dual carriage road heading towards the traffic light.
He said the accused who was driving the taxi was arrested and a loudspeaker was found in the taxi and when the accused was questioned, he could not give any tangible reason how he came by it.
Sergeant Bawa said the accused was taken to the charge office and during investigations, it came to light that he stole it from the
restaurant.
