Three of the royal gates to the Wa skin have called on the security agencies to ensure that law and order prevails in the Wa Municipality.
The Yijiihi, Najeri and Jonyuohi gates expressed concern that some people in the area are claiming to be chiefs of Wa in spite of the legal procedures in place to settle the Wa chieftaincy dispute.
"We wish to reiterate that such conduct does not augur well for peace and order in Wa," they said at a press conference in Wa on Thursday.
The news conference, which was organised by Gbetore Naa Alhaji Issah Bukari, Head of the three royal gates was to throw light on the current status of the Wa chieftaincy dispute,
The three gates said they had filed an appeal at the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi on February 1, against
the judgment of the Judicial Committee of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs.
They said they have been advised by their legal counsel that under the requirement of the law, Section 34 and 62 of Act 759 (Chieftaincy Act 2008) there is a stay of execution and nobody could therefore hold himself as chief of Wa.
"We therefore pray and crave the indulgence of all well meaning citizens of Wa and Ghana as a whole to help uphold the Rule of Law and the
maintenance of the peace that has prevailed."
Since the death of Wa Naa Momori Bondiri in 1998, the issue of his successor has been a matter of protracted dispute before the Supreme Court,
which eventually gave judgment in favour of Yakubu Seidu who also died in September 2006
At a meeting on January 19, 2007, which was one of the key issues of the petition filed at the Judicial Committee of the Regional House of Chiefs
by leading figures of the three gates, Selee Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo was purportedly nominated and elected.
On January 29, the Judicial Committee dismissed the petition filed by the three gates against the nomination, election and enskinment of Selee Naa
Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo as Wa Naa.
